Danaë plus one
What happens if you die when you’re dreaming – I feel that this has been already asked but I just don’t remember the answer- I was hit by a truck
That I wasn’t expecting – it may have been in another country – it came from the right. There were two men with beards at the edge of an airfield and then I ran into the road …
Next thing I knew I was put in a box with a baby – I shouted a lot but nobody minded – the baby was quiet. The last thing I saw as they nailed down the lid and the light was shut out was its smile. I held it close as they trundled the box over stones – there was really no choice – I suppose I could have rolled onto it – I would have if it had cried but it just sort of glowed – so I fed it – it calmed me as I fought back the panic which didn’t get less when the box we were in started rocking like we were at the sea – and for all that I knew that was just what it was – just a box on the sea – just me and the baby were sharing this coffin and no room for stretching or even unroll – I am curled like an embryo – do I envy the baby who’s kicking and stretching his legs out ? – oh yes
Through a chink in the lid I can see when its daytime
I am sick
I don’t know where I come from – don’t know where I am
And I’m sick so I am with the churning and tossing – am sick and am sick in a box and I’ve no means to die
Doesn’t seem to be daylight so often these days – I mean never is daylight – but it has stopped rocking – I barely remember it did – through the chink in the box I can see only darkness and stars
Slowly it bothers me less that I can’t move my legs – now it doesn’t at all as I curl with the baby and played with its toes
Did it always have claws ? and so many of them ?
I ran one of mine down its legs as it curled up – and counted them – eight
It doesn’t move so much these days and neither do I – we are drying – I know it – becoming like husks but I am not afraid as it isn’t forever, I think – we will travel a long way before we hit land
