Well I have always liked this spot .
It’s very quiet – except on bath nights –
but that is only now and then. Most days
it’s silent but for the crickets singing and
the forest coming here to drin . The hogs
will wallow in the shallow stream,
the deer will drink. And from
this place we’ll sit and stare at stars and
watch them wheel around the pole
as if the whole world spun. It was
unlucky that you saw it when you did –
There was commotion I do not deny
but it was sorted in an hour
the hounds were gone and then his friends
had packed up what was left and now
you wouldn’t find the spot if it had not
been marked with coloured stones and now
they’re hidden in the furry moss
You think it’s damp ?
Or – darling – shall we build a nest ?
